  • We Made It... Barely!

Thank you to everyone who prayed for our water situation.  There were several times over the last two days where I was near tears and ready to have our Thanksgiving location moved, but we persevered, and God was gracious, and it worked out, and we all had a great time.

    But to get to Thanksgiving...

First, Nate was working around the clock trying to finish our bathroom so that our guests could have one to use since the one we were regularly using was pretty yucky.  When installing the new sink, he cut off two pipes to put new fittings on, only to find they barely didn't fit, and when he went to Home Depot, they didn't have the right sized ones.  It was after 9pm and all the other places were closed, so we had to leave the water off and went to bed praying that the other Home Depot would have the right sized fitting.  He was standing outside when the doors opened at 6 am and was able to find the right size and get the water back on before leaving for work at 7:30.  Hurdle one!

Second, I was in charge of baking desserts so Wednesday night was pretty busy for me.  I was out of parchment paper and was very, very reckless and ignored a warning to not line a baking pan with wax paper.  Before I knew it, I had a melted puddle of wax at the bottom of my oven which was smoking horribly.  The whole house quickly filled up with thick, acrid smoke, we were all coughing and tearing up.  Thank God we were able to open up the deck door in our bedroom so Michael could sleep in some clean air, though of course it was freezing.  I had to run the self cleaner twice and scrub out the oven several times.  By a miracle, we still had my parents air purifier, so we had that running all night long.  The air was breathable by morning and I was able to finish my baking though I noticed my oven doesn't seem to work quite right anymore.  I will have to check its calibration now.

Everyone was gracious when they arrived about my kitchen not quite being all the way cleaned up yet as I had been set back five or six hours with the previous night's disaster.

But we all had a great time, ate a lot of delicious food, and everyone enjoyed my desserts.  I successfully made my first sponge cake!  Plus, Michael was delighting everyone.  My relatives hadn't seen him since Easter, and he's grown just a bit since then.  He even got to open his first birthday present!

So God was good.  I'm very, very thankful.

Our church videos were a success, people seemed to really enjoy them.  It's nice to have that big rush over now, though we still have a lots of other projects that need completing.

Here's pictures of our finished bathroom!  Big thank you to Nate, he pretty much did it all himself, and thanks to my dads for going to Home Depot with me and helping me carry heavy stuff during the day so it was ready for Nate when he got home at night.  And thanks to Mike C. for cutting all our tiles on a last minute's notice.

God is SO good to us.  Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!!
